"The whole experience was great, from having to wear the orange jumpsuits, hiding our alcohol, going to the hole! Just all of it! Don't expect a club or an escape room or even a regular bar, it's in own thing. If you're not sure, trust me when I say you won't regret it!! "

FAQS

What can I expect from a Brighton hen do at Alcotraz?

A sentence at Alcotraz is one of the most unique hen do activities Brighton has to offer. You’ll do time behind bars, smuggle in your own liquor, evade the fearsome Warden, and lose yourselves in our interactive storylines whilst sipping on bespoke cocktails with your best friends.

It’s the perfect choice for drinkers, non-drinkers, social butterflies, and those who want a laid-back drink with friends in a realistic prison setting. This versatility is just one reason why Alcotraz ranks among the best cocktail bars in Brighton!

Do you offer anything special for the Hen?

At checkout, you can add characters onto your booking, giving the bride-to-be an even more special experience for her Brighton hen night. Why not transform the hen into the janitor for the evening, and watch her play out an entirely unique role in your prison storyline?

What do I wear to Alcotraz?

For processing and conviction, we recommend that you wear light clothing as you will be required to wear a standard-issue Alcotraz orange jumpsuit (provided) for the duration of your stay.

How long will I spend at Alcotraz Brighton?

Your experience will last 1 hour 45 minutes, and inmates will be provided with their own orange jumpsuit for the duration of their time behind bars.

What size jumpsuits do you provide?

Our standard-issue Alcotraz jumpsuits cater to all inmates, with sizes ranging from XS to 4XL. Please note that you are free to wear your jumpsuit as you wish to make it more comfortable, such as tying the arms around your waist.

What alcohol can I bring with me?

The inmates you come across behind bars are highly skilled mixologists, and they work best with smuggled spirits. But, if you prefer wine or beer, this can also be served to you.

Can I bring opened bottles of alcohol?

Alcotraz operates a closed bottle policy, meaning we will not accept any bottles previously opened. Please only bring new, unopened and sealed bottles.

If you have any alcohol left at the end of this immersive experience, we will give you your bottle back. For this reason, we would advise you to bring screw-top bottles rather than anything with a cork.

How do I smuggle in alcohol?

Don’t worry – the guards are on your side and will help you smuggle in your contraband! Smaller bottles can be smuggled in coat pockets or handbags, but if you don’t have anything to conceal your alcohol with, the guard checking you in may be able to provide some props to help…

Once you’re in, our talented inmates-turned-mixologists will take your alcohol from you to create delicious, bespoke cocktails tailored to your preferences and any dietary restrictions. Just remember to hide your cocktails from the Warden or convince them you’re actually enjoying some “chicken soup”!

How many drinks are included?

Inmates get approximately 4 personalised cocktails delivered by our expert mixologists, using the liquor you smuggle in with you. All liqueurs, bitters, syrups and other ingredients that go into making your cocktails are included in the ticket price, so all you need to bring is the liquor of your choice.

Do I need to get involved if I don't want to?

Your Alcotraz experience is entirely tailored to your preferences, so feel free to get as involved as you want or just sit back and relax!

In this unique Brighton hen party venue, guests are absorbed into an ever-evolving storyline through characters including the Warden, the Guards and Inmate Cassidy – all played by talented actors. Those who really want to get involved will soon be trying out their American accent and crafting their character’s backstory, but those who’d prefer to sit back and enjoy are welcome to do that too – whilst sipping incredible personalised cocktails in this unique speakeasy in Brighton!

Is it scary?

Alcotraz is a unique cocktail bar and immersive experience in Brighton set in a highly realistic prison, but it isn’t scary at all. We have actors working inside the prison who help bring to life a fun, lighthearted experience for guests, creating unique, interactive storylines that suit your group’s personalities and preferences. As one of the most immersive and quirky bars in Brighton, Alcotraz brings people together in unforgettable ways, making it the perfect choice for your Brighton hen do.

What if someone in my group doesn’t drink alcohol?

If drinking isn’t your thing, don’t worry – we cater for sober hen nights in Brighton too. The Alcotraz experience is exactly the same for non-drinkers because a huge part of your time behind bars is the immersive storyline that unfolds around you, where you can interact with the storylines and the actors – and take part in secret missions!

For those not drinking alcohol, there is no need to smuggle anything in, and instead you will receive x 4 expertly crafted mocktails included within the ticket price.

Is Alcotraz Brighton wheelchair-accessible?

Unfortunately, our Brighton Cell Block is not currently accessible for wheelchair users.

What do I need to know before visiting?

Alcotraz Brighton is a strictly 18+ venue.

All visitors are encouraged to interact with our actors and fully immerse themselves in their new roles as Alcotraz inmates, but abusive or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated, and we would ask that you don’t interrupt the show during times when the actors are performing in front of the whole audience (although you are welcome to chat to them at any other time). Visitors who violate these rules may be asked to leave the venue early.

A maximum of 6-7 guests can sit in each cell, and wherever possible, we will endeavour to seat groups together. However, larger groups may need to sit in opposite or adjacent cells. When the venue is busy, couples and smaller groups may have to share a cell with other guests – but this can be a great opportunity to meet new people!

Visitors will need tickets for each person attending – one ticket doesn’t mean one cell.

I'm a group of 8 or more, can I reserve tickets before I buy or pay a deposit?

In some cases, we allow reservations of Alcotraz tickets in order to give you time to collect the money from your fellow fugitives – so you can pay for all in one transaction.

We can offer the above if your group size is 8 or more and your event date is 2 or more months away.

Your payment date will be set as the 3rd of next month (after pay day) and if not paid by this date, the link will then expire. We may not be able to issue you a new link if there are not enough tickets left after this or your event date is too close.

If you would like to go ahead, please email thewarden@alcotraz.co.uk the below information:

– Event Date
– Start time
– Number of people
– Full name

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Unfortunately we are unable to refund or cancel bookings, however, it is possible to move your booking to another day if we are given appropriate notice depending on your group size. If your group is 5 or less, please provide 48 hours notice prior to your visit. If your group is 6 or more, please provide 96 hours notice prior to your visit. Any purchases made individually will be treated as part of the wider group that they were looking to attend with. If you happen to make your booking within this time period then unfortunately an exchange is not possible. If the appropriate notice applies to your group size then please email thewarden@alcotraz.co.uk to complete an exchange.
