Using data-led research, we at Alcotraz have ranked the best UK cities based on affordability, nightlife, safety, and hen-friendly activities.
Here are the top hen-do destinations for 2025!
In 1st place as the highest scoring city is Aberdeen. The 3rd-largest Scottish city known for its entrepreneurial and industrial side, Aberdeen, or the city of the sea, boasts a unique charm with its outstanding architecture, and miles of golden sand beaches. As well as ranking 1st overall, Aberdeen also took the number one spot for low-cost cocktails, with an average price of just £7. It also scored highly in other categories, coming 4th out of 25 for overall safety, and 7th for both the number of late-night venues and hen-friendly activities, offering plenty to keep partygoers entertained throughout the hen weekend.
The coastal Lancashire party town of Blackpool came in second, thanks to its range of nightlife activities and affordability; scoring 5th for its cheap drink prices and 3rd for its low-cost hotel options, making it a fun yet cost-effective hen-do hotspot. Apart from its low costs, and abundance of nightlife which are the main attraction to the town, you will also find a great independent music scene, a rich history, and welcoming locals, making it an ideal choice for hens seeking atmosphere and lively spirit.
In third place, Cardiff ranked third in overall score for best hen-night destination, but ranked second-highest for its number of available hen activities which makes it a top spot for activity driven-hens. The Welsh capital, a vibrant city with a great art scene and rich history, has a bustling nightlife, and is an excellent representation of the fun, creativity, and culture Wales has to offer.
York, one of the most picturesque cities in the UK, filled with its medieval streets and historical hotspots, it also has a large number of attractions and activities perfect for hen parties. This heritage location ranked highly in most areas but scored 1st place out of 25 for its number of hen-do activities, and also scored 2nd highest for its safety, and low crime levels.
Liverpool, the pop capital of the world, has more talented individuals from the city who have topped the charts with number-one records, than anywhere else on the globe. The Red City, ranked 4th for its number of late-night venues, and 3rd out of 25 for low travel costs, making it a perfect destination for those looking to see and experience its rich history and diverse attractions.
Located in the heart of England, Coventry scored highly for its across the board affordability and high safety levels. The city offers excellent access to wildlife and nature for those who enjoy the outdoors, but also offers a vibrant nightlife, diverse entertainment, and a range of attractions, providing endless opportunities for fun times and enjoyment.
The second Welsh city to appear on the list, Swansea, another beautiful coastal city, has a strong focus on Welsh heritage. Home to many historical sites, and beautiful beaches, the city also scored first place for its cheap cocktails prices, making it an ideal spot for hen celebrations.
The second Scot city on the list, this UNESCO World Heritage Site and capital of Scotland scored high for its number of nightlife venues, and its overall safety score. Edinburgh will delight anyone with its striking Gothic architecture, vibrant arts and culture, and rich heritage. The city offers a dynamic blend of historical charm and modern entertainment, ensuring there’s something for everyone in your group.
Leicester, located in the East Midlands of the UK, is a sporty city perfect for those looking for a bit of action and adventure. The city scored high for its cheap drink prices, and transport, making it an accommodating and well-adapted option for the entire hen party.
Brighton, a jewel on England’s Southern coast is renowned for its diverse communities and large and vibrant cultural music and arts scene. It is known far and wide as one of the most lively and bohemian cities in the UK, and scored highly for its range of nightlife venues, and large range of hen-do activities, solidifying Brighton’s reputation as a top destination for pre-wedding celebrations.
The analysis compared 25 major UK cities across six key categories; late-night venue options, hen-friendly activities, average cocktail prices, hotel costs, local taxi fares, and overall safety. This data was used to create a definitive league table of the best locations for hosting a hen-do before the big day.
Each city was ranked from 1 to 25 in all six categories, with 1 being the best, and 25 the worst.
We then added up the six rankings for each city. The lower the total score, the higher the city ranked overall.
